Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been compelled to document things. During my last year of high school, I used an old DV camcorder to film every major event of the school year. Some of my classmates mocked me in this endeavour, but I persevered.
15 years later I posted a compilation of these clips on Facebook and the response it got was overwhelming. People shared the video and tagged their friends on social media which generated thousands of views. I noticed many of the people who, at the time, scoffed at my enthusiasm for filming ordinary every day life, now adulated the video and basked in the nostalgia that I provided for them.
That’s when I realised that everything is worth documenting…some things just need more time to pass than others before we appreciate them.
